The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T2 rivals the Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS in size but has a larger 2.7in screen and a non extending 3x optical zoom, giving the appearance of a smaller overall design when in use.

Sony has done away with the plethora of controls usually found on the camera’s back panel. Instead the T2 has just a couple which are for playback and lens zooming. They are a little fiddly in use but just about every other feature is selected from the touch-sensitive colour screen. Operation is incredibly slick and every icon on the screen is active. Others not shown directly are chosen from the menu which is on the left-hand corner of the screen. Features are shown in Canon-style with the image displayed like wallpaper.

It’s a vast improvement over previous offerings but there is a slight delay to selections, slowing speed of operation.

Face Detection - Face detection is included to give an optimised exposure for portraits and groups but the DSC-T2 also boasts a Smile Shutter option, firing the shutter only when the subject grins.

Sharemark Technology - Each image can be tagged and resized by the T2’s Sharemark technology, handy for use when blogging or on photo-sharing sites such as Flickr.

Portable Software - Using the camera’s pre-installed Picture Motion Browser Portable software, images can be uploaded to photo-sharing sites when connected to a PC.

Memory - With 4GB of internal memory, there’s enough capacity for over 1200 images. It has a slot for MS Duo and PRO Duo cards too.
