Samsung i85 Digital Camera Review

The i85 digital camera from Samsung may be a little larger and heavier than it similar rival compacts, but it sports a 5x optical zoom coupled to an 8.2 mega-pixel resolution CCD. It has a built-in music and video player and comes complete with stereo earphones. Like the Sony T2 and Olympus MJU 850, the slim i85 has a handy non-extending zoom, but an encompassing short telephoto setting means it packs a wider range. It’s the equivalent of a 36-180mm zoom.
Sadly there’s no optical image stabilisation or anti-shake CCD and the longer zoom settings really need it. But the i85 has the maker’s ASR technology, a processor-based stabilisation system that works pretty well.
There is no viewfinder on this model but the three-inch screen is certainly welcome. We’ve no real complaints with the build quality (other than the weight of the stainless steel shell) but image processing is agonisingly slow.
