The 10.2 megapixel Samsung GX-10 digital camera is distinctive, large and chunky and it delivers an assured handling experience. It features a comfortable, broad, vertical grip which makes it feel firm to hold, and its big, oversized buttons to the left of the screen make it simple to manoeuvre and operate.
Like all Samsung DSLRs, the GX-10 was developed in partnership with Pentax and, as a consequence, it features the KAF bayonet lens mount. It also has a built-in Optical Picture Stabilisation system, similar to Pentax’s own technology.
The GX-10’s feature set should suit more experienced photographers as it doesn’t feature auto picture modes which are often preferred by novices. Instead, it offers all the usual manual and semi-auto picture modes and even goes one stage further by presenting some impressive extra exposure options. These are sensitivity-priority and shutter and aperture-priority.
Stress-free use is also made possible by the Fn (function) button. This gives direct access to the drive, ISO and flash mode as well as the white-balance setting. A separate info panel on the top-plate allows you to see the aperture and shutter speed settings quickly. It also offers rapid reference to details such as the battery life and number of shots left on the SD card. For more detailed information, all the relevant shooting settings can be displayed on the rear LCD screen, as is possible with many DSLRs.
