- 2.5in LCD
The Olympus MJU 850 SW is the only camera in this company to offer a shock and waterproof casing, so it’s as happy by the beach as it would be slung in the bottom of a bag.
Like rivals it’s mainly metal body and build quality is exceptionally high. As well as an eight-megapixel resolution CCD, the MJU 850 SW packs a non-extending 3x optical zoom (38-114mm equivalent), using folded-optics like the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T2 and a 2.5in LCD.
With 230,000 pixels, the CD is a high-resolution panel. There’s no room for an optical viewfinder and neither does the little MJU 850 SW boast optical or mechanical image stabilisation. Instead it has what Olympus describes as digital image stabilisation. And with an auto ISO range between ISO 100-1600, there’s little need to worry about selecting a hi-auto option or switching to manual.
Shadow adjustment Technology - The 850’s Shadow Adjustment Technology (SAT) option works in real time to reveal detail in shadow areas, and its visible screen.
Face Detection - The MJU 850 SW boasts face detection AF that works with the SAT to give optimised exposure for shots of heavily backlit people.
BrightCapture Technology - Like previous offerings from Olympus, the MJU 850 W boasts BrightCapture technology boosting the brightness of the LCD in poor lighting without loss of clarity.
Memory - The 850 SW supports the xD card format as well as microSD (with the included adapter). It also has a 14.7MB internal memory.
