Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a complete novice, a pocket camera is an essential purchase. Keeping a camera with you at all times is handy for that unexpected photo opportunity. So with the summer holiday approaching, you should be checking out the latest models.
Even the most pocket-friendly of compacts come with a dizzying array of features to make sure you never miss that once-in-a-lifetime photo.
The majority of suitable compacts will feature a 3x optical zoom with a 35mm range equivalent to 38-114mm, though you may wish to look for more useful wide-angle zooms. Digital compacts with a 28-100mm zoom are still pretty uncommon. They will also feature colour LCDs for composition and playback, and will also product TV friendly video clips.
At the high end of the compacts you may also find features such as optical image stabilisation to help prevent blur.
